In April of 1940, my grandfather, Lish and his second wife, Lady Beatrice (Ingram) were living with the family of his niece and nephew, Ross and Bertha Dabney.

• The monthly rent was documented as $0.
• Lish was the respondent (the person interviewed by the enumerator) for this census.
• Ross and Bertha both did housework at a private home.
• Lish worked for the City Department of Sanitation.
• Lady Beatrice did not work outside the home, but was documented at doing housework in the home.
• Lady Beatrice was probably about six months pregnant with Vivian Askew at the time of enumeration.
• Ross worked 65 hours a week for 42 weeks and earned $520 ($9,769.09 in 2021 dollars) prior to the 1940 census.
• Bertha worked 50 hours a week for 15 weeks and earned $90 ($1,690.80 in 2021 dollars) prior to the 1940 census.
• Lish worked 56 hours a week for 50 weeks and earned $750 ($14,090.04 in 2021 dollars) prior to the 1940 census.
• The residence of Ross and Bertha is the only one on the census sheet that has no house number.
